Hey there!

It's Amy here! Cheryl and I decided to start a blog to follow along with our podcast, Generation Living. We've been having such an awesome time recording episodes and sharing our lives and we want to continue to grow! In this blog, you'll find links to all the places you can follow along and listen to the podcast - and now, we're going to write up some posts to keep you up to date on where we are in the process and also share some of our more serious thoughts and feelings.
We thought this might be a really fun way to keep in touch with our audience! Maybe we don't quite have an audience yet - but we hope to! So in the mean time, if you are reading this, thank you! Thank you for following along and we hope you enjoy this as much as we do.
We have explained our "plan" several times on the podcast - but in case you haven't listened I'll go ahead and explain it again. We have had this dream for awhile to do multi-generational living. We have so many reasons for wanting to try it out but it mostly stems from wanting to be closer to family AND save money! Not having to drive home after family game night is just a small benefit ;)
Growing up in the United States, most people find the thought of multi-generational living very odd. We've gotten a few side-eye reactions to our idea and I think that tends to represent the majority of peoples opinions on the matter. I understand why people find it odd - because in the U.S. everyone dreams of growing up, moving out, living in a house with your own family and that's the epitome of success. That's a nice goal and a nice way to live - but for us - it's not quite the dream. The idea of everyone getting to see the kids grow up, and getting to be there for my grandparents while they get older, being just steps away from an entire support system - these are just a few of the reasons we are choosing to live in a multi-generational home.
And that brings me to my next point! We're still trying to figure out how to make this possible. We are willing to build or buy but a big part of this goal is financial freedom and so the cost is a contributing factor in whatever route we choose to go. While we figure out how we can move forward with this idea, we plan on sharing all sorts of fun and interesting information to show to other families that this idea isn't as crazy as it sounds. We think there is a lot more people that are interested in the idea of multi-generational living - and this is for them! For anyone else out there who dreams of living on a large property with your family where your living expenses are low and you get to spend your days being surrounded by family and loved ones - THIS IS FOR YOU!
Whether your dream is to own a huge property with a family commune style living scenario or you don't care about space you just care about money saving tricks for having a large family in a small home- we're here to share a funny and interesting (and hopefully helpful) narrative so you know what will and won't work for this process.
I hope you continue to follow along and let us know what you would like to hear about!
